The holiday season, often a time of togetherness and joy, can also bring heightened stress and anxiety for many. Financial pressures, family conflicts, and the triggers related to excessive alcohol and drug consumption can cast a shadow over what is portrayed as a happy time.

As Community Drug Action Teams (CDATs) we’re here to help build safe, healthy and resilient communities, that’s why we’ve put together resources and information on Christmas stress and triggers – with the aim of preventing, responding to and reducing health, social and economic harms related to drug and alcohol use throughout the festive season.

We want to help make your holidays safe and filled with joy.

Connect with Community: Reach out to your neighbours, friends, and fellow community members – a supportive network can make all the difference during these challenging times.

Cope with Family Conflict: We understand that family dynamics can be challenging. Learning healthy ways to navigate these situations and maintain peace in your household can be incredibly useful at Christmas time.

Seek Support When You Need It: There is absolutely no shame in seeking help. There are many resources and services that provide guidance and assistance for those facing active addiction or have concerns about alcohol and other drugs during the Christmas and New Year period.

This holiday season, CDAT NSW hopes we can come together as a community, and ensure everyone feels safe and supported. Remember, you are not alone in this journey.
